Lascaux International Centre of Parietal Art

Dordogne - France

Located in the Dordogne, the Lascaux Cave, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, is one of the most prestigious archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. One of the masterpieces of prehistoric art by the number and aesthetic quality of its works, this cave is a major tourist site recognised internationally.

The opening of the new Lascaux International Center of Parietal Art in December 2016, now allows visitors from all over the world to experience the first complete replica of the cave. Lascaux lets visitors walk through the reproduction of the cave and view the masterpieces above.

Created by a multidisciplinary team, scenography firm Casson Mann and architects Snøhetta and SRA, the new building is located below the hill of Lascaux. With its monolithic form of great sobriety, the semi-buried building resonates with the surrounding nature and rock formations of the hill.

The replica of the cave, the "Sistine Chapel of Prehistory", offers an immersive experience.

The shop is a very important place in this complex, a must for all visitors to the site who wish to learn about Lascaux, or simply bring back a souvenir from the incredible visit.
