USM supports the best European Architectures

Barcelona

On the 7th of May, Fundació Mies van der Rohe with the support of Creative Europe celebrated the EU Mies Award Day in the Barcelona Pavilion.

USM is more than proud to be part of the 2019 EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award! With the aim of promoting knowledge of Contemporary Architecture and its values USM teamed up with the Fundació Mies van der Rohe to honor the complexity of Architecture's own significance in terms of technological, constructional, social, economic, cultural and aesthetic achievements.

USM, as a sponsor of Fundació Mies van der Rohe for more than 15 years, participates in the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture by granting the winning architects with 5000€ in USM furniture.

Two awarded projects have been chosen from a list of 383 works from 238 cities in 38 countries: The 2019 Winner of the Prize is the project Transformation of 530 dwellings - Grand Parc Bordeaux by Anne Lacaton, Jean-Philippe Vassal, Frédéric Druot and Christophe Hutinis and the 2019 Emerging Architecture winners are the Toulouse studio BAST for the work E26 (school refectory) in Montbrun-Bocage.

“I admire the authors’ curiosity and willingness to do things differently and better. They represent a humanistic approach to architecture, showing care and respect for the people inhabiting their projects.“
Dorte Mandrup, chairwoman Mies van der Rohe Award 2019
