USM is transferring the assembly to Leipzig

USM, the world-renowned Swiss modular furniture systems manufacturer, is optimising assembly and logistics for Germany and export markets by establishing a new assembly plant in Leipzig. The new site provides increased space and improved connections to transportation routes. The existing location in Bühl (Germany) will remain the service center for Germany.

The new, larger facility in Leipzig will allow USM to assemble its modular furniture systems more efficiently. It is also more accessible to traffic and transport networks. USM will have a leaner structure, reduce its delivery times and improving its competitiveness. For these reasons, USM is relocating its assembly operations for its largest market in Germany from Bühl/Achern to Leipzig. Discussions have already begun between USM and its workers union regarding the affected assembly workers in Bühl to discuss the results of the relocation and come to a socially responsible solution. The Bühl location will continue to carry out the following activities as USM's centre for Germany: distribution, sales department, planning, marketing, training, finances, HR and IT will all stay in this southern German city.

Production stays in Switzerland

Moreover, the assembly activities for the export markets, which were previously carried out in Switzerland, will be centralized in Leipzig in the future. For the permanent employees affected by this relocation, jobs are being identified in the sectors of production or of assembly for Switzerland. USM's modular furniture systems will continue to be manufactured in Münsingen, in the canton of Bern.
